The study, published by the American Physiological Society in the Journal of Applied Physiology, describes a three times greater risk of experiencing a stroke or dying, compared to people with similar health but without sleep apnea. What the study did not say though is that the vast majority of people with sleep apnea are overweight. The latest study reported at the American Heart Association's Cardiovascular Disease Epidemiology and Prevention annual conference confirms what we are seeing all around us - our children are getting fatter. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention tells us that 24 percent of American children aged two to five are overweight and an additional 12 percent are obese. 33 percent of children 6 to 11 are overweight, and another 17 percent are obese.
